Breast Surgery Frequently Asked Questions
What is the procedure like?
In all breast surgery procedures, an incision is made. Then, in the case of breast reductions, tissue and fat are removed. In the case of breast augmentation, a breast implant is inserted. In the case of breast reconstruction, sometimes tissue from elsewhere in the body is inserted with or without a breast implant.
Where is the incision made?
This depends on the type of procedure required, but generally incisions are made through the areola, under the breast, through the armpit or, in some cases, through the belly button.
Will there be a scar?
Yes, but in the vast majority of cases, the scar will be small and in a very inconspicuous area.
What is the recovery process like?
Generally, you will have absorbable stitches. For about a month, you’ll experience soreness, and have to avoid any activities where you might experience a blow to the chest.
What size will my breast implants be?
This is determined by your appearance goals and body shape. For most women, the goal is larger, fuller, yet natural-looking breasts.
Are the breast implants safe?
Saline breast implants are very safe. Saline is salt water, and occurs naturally in the body. Although it is very rare for a breast implant to rupture, if one does there are no harmful effects to the body.
