Traditional Face Lift and Non-Surgical Procedures Comparison

Traditional Face Lift

Typically, this surgical procedure is sought after by men and women over the age of 40, when skin has started to noticeably lose its firmness and elasticity. Also referred to as a rhytidectomy, the surgical face lift can restore smoother, more youthful looking contours to your face and neck.

For this procedure, Salt Lake City Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr. Haupt places the required incisions above the hairline near the temple, extending down around the ears. Once healed, the scars will be barely visible, but initially, this placement makes it easy for Dr. Haupt to remove any excess fat and then tighten the muscles and tissue.

Since traditional face lifts are considered an invasive procedure, the recovery and healing time is longer than with non-surgical methods. Following a traditional face lift, you are encouraged to restrict your activities to better rest and relax. Our staff will give you a complete list of guidelines to follow but you should note that taking any type of aspirin or certain anti-inflammatory medications is greatly discouraged. You should also stay away from cigarette smoke for a while.

For most of our patients, we remove the bandages and drain tubes after just a couple of days, with stitches being removed about a week after surgery. Initially, you may see an increase in the swelling and puffiness in your face but that will gradually subside over the next few weeks. Any bruising that may have occurred usually disappears after just 12 to 14 days.
